Dear Jerry,
June is a big month for pearls, it is the
birthstone plus pearls are the traditional
jewelry for brides. There are new Swarovski
Crystal Pearl colors and sizes, and several of
the beading magazines have had articles on using
pearls in beading. There is a big push on the
marketer to improve the
reputation of Chinese Freshwater Pearls.
This month we are giving away freshwater pearls,
trying to keep better stock and of course all of
our pearls are on special. Now is a good time
to stock up on this old favorite.
A New Contest
This June we are giving away 25 strands of mixed
Freshwater Pearls and Coral to Three Winners.
It has been awhile since we had a giveaway or
contest. The last one was August when we gave
away 800 grams of silver.
Over the past six years, we have collected quite
an assortment of Freshwater Pearls and Coral
that for one reason or another we feel that we
cannot sell. Most of the pearls are over dyed,
poorly drilled or just spotty. The coral is
mostly that fake red reconstituted stuff or so
faded that they are barely pink. You might find
an odd strand that you like; these would also
make great fillers.
Now that I have presented these pearls in their
best light. We have rounded up all of our stray
strands and decided to give them away. The
Pearls are mostly between 4 and 6mm in size. The
shapes include Buttons, Rice and Potato. The
colors range from off white to neon orange. The
coral includes Branch, Barrel and Triangles. All
of the Freshwater Pearls come from China, and
are cultured.
No purchase is necessary. No purchase is
required to enter or win.

Freshwater Pearl Farming |

Do It Yourself - Freshwater Pearl Farming
If Forest Gump and an Ape could start a shrimp
farm in Louisiana, why can't you start your own
pearl farm?
If you do not know what I'm talking about "Let
me say this: Bein' a idiot is no box of
chocolates." Read the book don't just see the
movie. If you read the book you will find that
Forrest Gump is a mathematical idiot savant,
capable of outperforming NASA's on-board
computers, which is why Gump ends up on a space
mission with an ape and the first woman
astronaut the mission ends in the forests of New
Guinea where Gump meets a Yale-tutored cannibal.
With the advances in Aquaculture, I am sure that
if you had the time and the space that you could
set up your own pearl farm.

Summer Weather - Nickel |
 |
Hot Summer Weather Sparks Outbreak Of Jewelry Skin
Rashes.
Nickel rashes increase during the summer, because
sweat leaches nickel from metal - typically
jewelry. In
addition, beach-going teens are more apt to have
ears
and bodies pierced.
The allergy to nickel can develop at any age. It
is more
common in women, but the incidence in men is
increasing because of the popular trend in piercing
various body parts. Once nickel allergy occurs,
it often
persists for a lifetime.
Nickel may be a hidden in your most commonly used
products, creams and even medications. Do not
overlook these potential sources:
- Non-U.S. Coins (The 1 and 2-euro coins have
recently made headlines as concern gathers about
its
potential role in causing nickel allergy.)
- Green Felt Dye (such as that used on pool
tables)
- Machine oils used to cut or grind
- Some eye cosmetics
- Chromium and cobalt
You can buy a test for nickel at your local
pharmacy or
on the Internet. Having a nickel test kit
(dimethylglyoxime) on hand helps avoid unnecessary
repeat nickel exposures.
The test is simply to use. Just apply 2 drops of
dimethyglyoxime and 1 drop of ammonium hydroxide to
a cotton swab then rub the object. A strawberry red
color is a positive result and indicates the
presence of
nickel.
