Dear Jerry,
School is out for the summer here in Central Florida. Let
us all whine together "I'm Bored". My daughter was
bored within the first hour of waking up. I guess I did
the same thing when I was young, the years fog my
memory.
If you haven't heard the song by the Ataris called "In
This Diary" The Chorus goes like this "Being grown up
isn't half as fun as growing up: These are the best days
of our lives." -- How True.
Blueberry and Cherry Quartz
I have just gotten back from a Gem and Lapidary
Wholesalers show. I saw this stuff everywhere; this is
what I found out. It looks beautiful and I love it, but it
is not True Quartz.
After talking to all of the vendors at the show, and
dismissing the ones that told me that it had been
irradiated, this is what I found. This is glass; it comes
out of China (Hong Kong). The vendors told me that
glass is melted it in a giant wok, then a coloring agent
is added. Once the glass is melted and the desired color
is reached, the glass is allowed to cool. It is cut just
like any other gemstone. One vendor told me this is not
as easy as it sounds, and that only one plant in China
is doing this as a commercial venture.
I do not know if this is going to become a permanent
part of the beading landscape or if it will just be a fad.
Personally I like the look and feel of these beads.

Summer Colors |
 |
|
Summer is the time of year when temperatures are
warmer and days are longer. Blue skies, golden sunsets,
and green grass, it is easy to find inspiration by all the
beautiful colors this season.
When you are thinking about designs, try not to limit
yourself to just necklaces and bracelets. Look at
making earrings, ankle bracelets, toe rings, belly rings
and belly chains.
When designing jewelry this summer, consider the
summer colors. Blue, Green, Orange, Red, Pink and
Yellow.

Alphabet Beads |
 |
I just threw away 7,811 Alphabet Beads
You order Alphabet Beads and sometimes a few of them
are bad. Well I order a lot of Alphabet Beads. How
many bad ones do you think I get?
What One Customer Said.. After The Contest
Jerry
Before I discovered your web site, I ordered alphabet
beads from xxxx.com. I received them yesterday and
what a disappointment! 37 out of 100 were what I
would consider not usable. To top it off, they have a
no return policy. I talked to customer service and will
be able to exchange them. But, I was told that "that's
just the way those beads are".
Needless to say, I was DELIGHTED to read about your
bowl of 7000 alphabet beads. I appreciate your quality
control and will be ordering from you from now on.
Ideally, I would be hand picking my beads myself. Given
the availability and cost of retail beads, this just is not
possible. THANK YOU for your attention to the details.
M. DeDore Scotts Valley, CA
I had posted information about this contest in the
rec.crafts.beads newgroups on google. One person
responded with a very detailed suggestion on what to
do with these beads.

Summer Weather - Nickel |
 |
Hot Summer Weather Sparks Outbreak Of Jewelry Skin
Rashes.
Nickel rashes increase during the summer, because
sweat leaches nickel from metal - typically jewelry. In
addition, beach-going teens are more apt to have ears
and bodies pierced.
The allergy to nickel can develop at any age. It is more
common in women, but the incidence in men is
increasing because of the popular trend in piercing
various body parts. Once nickel allergy occurs, it often
persists for a lifetime.
Nickel may be a hidden in your most commonly used
products, creams and even medications. Do not
overlook these potential sources:
- Non-U.S. Coins (The 1 and 2-euro coins have
recently made headlines as concern gathers about its
potential role in causing nickel allergy.)
- Green Felt Dye (such as that used on pool
tables)
- Machine oils used to cut or grind
- Some eye cosmetics
- Chromium and cobalt
You can buy a test for nickel at your local pharmacy or
on the Internet. Having a nickel test kit
(dimethylglyoxime) on hand helps avoid unnecessary
repeat nickel exposures.
The test is simply to use. Just apply 2 drops of
dimethyglyoxime and 1 drop of ammonium hydroxide to
a cotton swab then rub the object. A strawberry red
color is a positive result and indicates the presence of
nickel.

The Specials for June |
 |
June is a big month for Birthstones they are Pearls,
Moonstone and the Swarovski Light Amethyst. So we
really have a lot a for sale.
All products that have Pearls, Moonstone or Swarovski
Light Amethyst in the name are 5% off for this month.
I had somebody write me asking when silver goes on
sale. I have been thinking about that. Because I only
run Birthstone of the Month sales, I exclude many other
things.
All I can really say is that I am working on it, and do
plan to come up with a better system soon. I will let
