A True Bead
The Second Degree of Beadiness
A second order bead is when someone makes a bead from raw materials.
Bead making involves the transformation of materials for bead purposes.
Shells are drilled (a hole is made) or glass is wound on a rod (another hole is made).
These efforts typically result in beads proportioned to the hole, but irregular
beads also are created. The raw materials are given bead body and spirit and,
with a string through the hole, true beads are created.
- Humans supply the body
- Humans provide the spirit
