Expressing individual style is a top trend in wedding gowns. Bridal gowns and
accessories are right in step with the overall fashion trend toward choice and
self-expression. The 20th Annual London January Bridal Show, held at the
Convention Centre earlier this month, showcased a wide range of styles for
brides and their attendants.
"Strapless gowns with a fitted bodice and straight to slight A-line skirts are
fashionable," says Lyndsay Reinhart, the bridal manager at Ballett's the Wedding Specialists.
"I would say that less is more in an overall theme. . . . Although some styles feature subtle beading, there is definitely less beadwork than in recent seasons."
For those looking to continue the tradition of wearing a full-skirted gown, skirts with gathered sections, called "pin-up" or "pick-up" skirts,
offer soft volume. The gathered sections are often accentuated by fabric roses and this year there is a new trend toward accentuating the gathered
sections with beaded appliques. "The pick-up skirt is the modern incarnation of the full skirt and continues to be a growing trend," affirms Reinhart.
Tiaras, headbands and jewelled hair clips decorated with pearls and crystals make for popular head wear. Co-ordinating stoles and long, elbow- length gloves add a polished finish to the look of strapless gowns.
Jewelry trends include the classic look of pearl beads and bold chandelier earrings.
